Pope John Paul II Religious Education(CCD) Policy/Procedures

For the Religious Education program at Pope John Paul II School/Holy Cross Church to be effective, the full cooperation and commitment of parents is absolutely essential. Parents are the first and primary educators of children who take their cue from examples set at home.

The religious education program offers a structure rich in doctrine, tradition, scripture and prayer. We encourage all parents to take their roles seriously by reviewing weekly lessons and helping with the memorization of prayers and doctrine. All announcements are in the weekly parish bulletin, on the web at www.holycrosschurchnb.com ,and a notice sent home on the night of class. We stress that you check these resources  regularly and thoroughly, and by checking all of your child’s papers. Let us pray that together we can share with our children the joy of our Catholic faith.
God Bless you and your families!

Arrival/ Dismissal & Lateness

Arrival  Monday  is 4:55pm. Classes start at 5:00pm.  It is imperative that students arrive on time because we are a secured facility and school doors are locked at all times. Being that we only have 1 hour of religion being late is a disruption to the students and teacher. If you know The doors will be locked at 5:10pm on Mondays. Please make sure to be on time. There is someone at the door at all times if you need any assistance. Parents should drop their children off at the main door. The teachers will be waiting at the drop off area for their children and escort them to their classrooms. The drop off area during the winter months will be in the Gym. For security reasons no one is allowed into the school building. If you would like to meet with the teacher you may do so after class or by appointment.

Picking up your child

Teachers will escort their children back to the parking area to awaiting parents. The drop off area is coned off for the childrens safety. Please make sure to never park within the yellow horses or orange cones. They are there for the safety of your children. Please make sure to always watch your children in this area when waiting for siblings or picking up family members. We are not responsible for children playing or running around in the pick area.

Please note that on some nights children may be delayed due to announcements. We ask you to cooperate in following these procedures. It does work if everyone follows directions.

Remember, we are striving to ensure the safety of your children.

Homework/Text Books

Children will be assigned homework on weekly basis. Please encourage them to work on their assignments and to hand them back to the teacher. Please make sure your child always comes to class with their religion book and is prepared for class. There is no sharing of books between students.

If a child loses a textbook you are responsible for the cost of the replacement book. This is due to the rising cost of textbooks.

Important Notices

Notices are often given to the children please be sure to ask your child for any notices as soon as you pick him/her up. This is extremely important because this is how you will be notified of any changes in schedule or special events.

Early Dismissal/Absence

Regular attendance is expected and required on a weekly basis. Please make sure a letter is written to the teacher if an absence has accrued or if a child has to be dismissed earlier from class. Please make note - No child will be excused without a written letter.

Conduct and Discipline

It is expected that all students demonstrate an attitude of respect and courtesy to their catechists, classmates, all parish staff and school and church property. A student who disrupts the classrooms atmosphere will be asked to leave the class and report to the director. At this time a parent will be called to pick up their child. Chronic disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and will result in dismissal from the program.

Any acts of vandalism or disrespect of other’s property may result in the child’s expulsion from the program. Parents will be expected to compensate for any vandalism that occurs in the classroom or anywhere else on Church and School property.

Dress Code

We stress appropriate dress to class; hats, hoods, caps and other head coverings are to be removed in school, church, hall and classrooms. No gum, candy etc. Cell phones, i-pods and all electrical gadgets are NOT allowed and will be confiscated and will not be returned until a parent retrieves them from the office. If a child needs to make a phone call, they can always use the directors’ phone. Appropriate behavior is expected as soon as children enter the school and until they leave the grounds.

Please make sure to discuss this with your children so that they understand what is expected of them.

Thank you for your cooperation.
